OBSERVATIONS
"I Ictineu. Monturiol's Dream" is a traveling show of large format and custom design from a basic cell formed by the Ictineu I, Narcís Monturiol and his assistants Ferrocolat, and the cyclists in Babord and Stribord. These elements are part of the inspiration for the show.
The artistic design and the cost estimate will depend on the characteristics of the demand. This will adapt and will enrich with all the artistic resources gained after a twenty- year- experience, but it will also incorporate the new elements required from the specific needs of the different requests.
The first ICTINEU trip took place in September 1859 in Barcelona’s port. The submarine managed to sail completely sunk beneath the surface for two hours and twenty minutes in front of a big audience. This fact aroused so much interest among Catalan society that it allowed Narcís Monturiol to get money contributions and to collect the necessary amount of money to fund the company “La Navegación submarina”. Thus, he was able to build ICTINEU II some years later.
One hundred and fifty years later on 23rd and 24th of September 2009 Xarop de Canya started the first trips of our ICTINEU I in Barcelona as part of the activities in the program of “Festes de la Mercè 2009”.
